My Hair History

Okay, so basically the last time my mother cut my hair was when I was 2yrs old. She kept my hair natural most of the time unless there was a special occasion she would relax it then let it transition back to natural. I hated my natural hair not because it was ugly or anything but because it was just soooo damn painful. So when i turned 12 i was given the right to control what happens to my hair and I chose the relaxer route and have never turned back.
However I was young and ignorant really didn't know how to take care of my hair and it used to break so much.
Then i turned 14 and started experimenting with highlights dyes etc and yes, my hair got damaged.
I also used to get cute short bobs and trims to keep my hair shoulder length.
Then finally about 4 years ago in 2012 I decided to start my Healthy Relaxed Hair Journey.

Ways to keep your hair healthy during winter

Hello Beautiful People. Hope you are all well. Someone requested a post on how to keep your hair healthy during winter, so I came up with a few tips to help out...

  1. Deep Condition, Deep Condition, Deep Condition!!!! I do not how to emphasize this point. GUYS DEEP CONDITIONING IS ONE OF THE MAJOR  KEYS TO HAVING HEALTHY HAIR. (If you follow my blog I am sure you have noticed that I always talk about deep conditioning  and someone has asked me to upload a video of me deep conditioning my hair. I will do so next time!)
  2. Protective styling - This is probably the safest way to keep our hair safe, healthy and growing during winter because our hair isn't exposed to the harsh weather conditions. Abuse protective styles during winter: cornrows, braids, weaves (GO CRAZY!), but also let your hair and scalp breathe in between styles. 2-3 days with loose hair won't do much damage.
  3. Moisturize your hair and scalp more often - Its important to keep a healthy scalp. Moisturizing your scalp every other day is a good idea. (I suck at this :(  )
  4. Avoid coloring/dying your hair in winter Dye generally dries out our hair and dry hair is the worst because it breaks easily. Dry hair + Winter = Worst Combination, therefore dying your hair during winter is a very very bad idea (I am generally against coloring hair but at some point I used to love it so I totally understand the obsession with hair dyes. I'll post some tips on how to keep your dyed hair healthy soon)
  5. Do not over wash your hair - Shampooing our hair strips it of oils leaving it dry. So it is advisable not to wash your hair frequently. Washing your hair once or twice a week is okay during winter.
  6. Headscarves and woolen hats - these are our besties during winter because they keep our hair covered and warm during winter. I also love these cause they are very stylish moment and ideal for those lazy days.
  7. Cover your hair at night - Temperatures generally drop at night so we need to keep our hair warm. Covering your hair with 2 headscarves is a good idea. (I really really need to do this )
I am sure after reading this you have realized that it is important to keep our  hair moisturized at all times especially during winter.Thank you for visiting my page hope these tips help you out. 10 ways to stop your hair from breaking and shedding

Hey beautiful people. Hope you are all well. I know it has been a while but I'm back. So you know how sometimes you can tell your hair is growing, but you actually can't see the difference in length. It's most probably cause of all the shedding and breakage. Shedding also = thinning and I know some people don't want that at all. So I compiled this list of ways to stop your hair from shedding and breaking.

  1. Deep condition your hair. This helps your hair stay strong and stops it from shedding.
  2. Drink lots of water. Water is good for almost everything skin, hair you name it.
  3. Do not over brush or comb your hair.
  4. When detangling your  hair do it in sections. Detangle damp hair not wet hair.
  5. Sleep with a silk scarf wrapped around your hair or sleep on a silk pillow. (I struggle with this.)
  6. Keep your hair and scalp moisturised at all times. Try moisturising your hair every other day. (I struggle with this too)
  7. Use correct comb or brush for your hair. ( I'll do a blog post on this.)
  8. Try by all means to stay away from using heat on your hair. Instead of blow drying your hair try air drying it when you have time. Use your straightener when you really really really need to. When you apply heat on your hair use a heat protector. I recommend these two but there are many out there.

  9. Protective styling. Braids, weaves, corn rows etc ( I'll do a blog post on protective styling soon)
  10.  Trim your ends. I know most people don't like this but it has to be done.

I'm so sorry for the silence. I will try post more regularly from now on. Thank you for visiting my page hope theses tips and products help you out.

How I made my temples/edges stronger

Hey guys

I know its been a while. Sorry for the silence.

Okay I've always had problems with my temple hair its very soft (
"baby hair" or something along those lines) and because of its texture it breaks easily. Every time I braid my hair I end up with almost bald temples :(

So I thought to myself what's the way forward... Decided to stop braiding my hair for a while, and I would always leave my hairline out whenever I weaved my hair. I started using Dr Miracles Temple and Nape balm religiously every morning. I also used Jamaican Castor Oil but just for two weeks I don't know why I stopped using it :( ....

I'm happy with my results so far my temples are recovering.

You can find the Temple and Nape balm in Clicks or Dischem
The Jamaican Castor Oil can be found in Dischem too.

Let's promote hair growth.

Hey guys,so my posts over the next few weeks are going to be focused on hair growth and what products you can use to grow your hair. I've asked a few people I know to help me out and this week I'm sharing Nyasha's hair secrets...

Hey.
My hair basically broke then after a while and my older sister helped me on my hair journey. She googles and reads reviews for every product she buys.

Castor oil: I use it two ways I wake up every morning and rub on my hair line and it's improved over time because of this. The trick is to massage it. The other way I use it is by pre-pooing , the day before I wash and OT (oil treatmeant). I put caster oil, olive oil, and jasmine oil in my hair and just tie it up . Then I shampoo my hair next day and OT it after. I use dark and lovely OT very good especially if you add peppermint oil and coconut oil to it.

I also do protein treatments sometimes with coconut oil . I alternate between OT or protein treatment. Recently started using a new product that seems to be working for protein treatments.

I try to avoid using heat in my hair as much as possible and I've started using flexi rods/bendy rollers. Takes a while to dry but the curl lasts a few days. I use a setting foam and I use a Shea butter curling cream that helps with shine and moisture. I OT my hair once a week and I do it at home I just put my mixture into my hair and I tie it up and go about my business.

I oil my hair with Indian hemp and dark and lovely alma legend amazing stuff and its awesome whe you have braids. They also have an OT that's really good and thickening oil. I'm a bit of a product lover.
I textlise my hair, I don't over process my hair at all and its added to the thickness a lot and doesn't thin out. Zimbabwe hair dressers over process hair bad bad bad. I use soft and free relaxer it's really good been using it about 2 years. I only relax 3 times a year, 4 if I need it.

I also use leave in conditioner and spray on days that I feel my hair is dry.I also use this interesting spray and sill it with coconut oil.

I have been using this shampoo and conditioner for a few years now.

An important thing I do is I get my spilt ends trimmed as much as I can ( maybe thats why my hair grows so fast). People are scared to cut but I cut. I also have protective styles all the time weaves with closures and braids but don't keep them in for long. It's very good to change hairstyles and let your scalp breathe.

 6 months difference.
It's getting thicker
Recovering hair line

Hope this helps
Peace, happiness, love and joy...

Something for Natural Hair

Hey Guys! My name is Whety and I’ve been a natural my entire life.
I only started taking proper care of my hair about a year ago when I started reading blogs and websites on natural hair. My hair type is a mix, so my front is 4b and back is 4c meaning that it’s prone to a lot of dryness, so moisture is my best friend.

  •  I try to keep my hair in protective styles, to prevent it from breaking and to lock in the moisture. So most of the times you will see me with box braids or weaves, I also like to change my hairstyles a lot because I get bored easily. But when I do have my hair out I usually have it in twist outs or blown out, although I try to prevent heat.
  •  My wash days are quite the mission. Lol. I start with pre-pooing my hair ( oil treatment applied to hair prior to shampooing or conditioning.), and what I use is Tresemme Naturals conditioner and an oil (eg.Jojoba, Tea tree, Castor) on damp hair, I let it sit for an hour under a shower cap. After this I then wash my hair with the Tresemme Shampoo and Condition it, I try to avoid using a comb and usually finger detangle my hair. When I'm done washing my hair I use a leave in conditioner and an oil to twist out my hair. I use Capicilin Cachos  as a leave in conditioner which I buy in Mozambique but I’ve also used Dr Miracles Weightless Moisturizing Cream, you can find it at Clicks, and it worked miracles on my hair. For the oil I use Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, but also Tea Tree Oil, Jojoba Oil, Castor Oil. Once my hair is twisted I let it air dry and rock the twists till I undo it and wear my very kinky curls.

I believe that a natural hair journey can be challenging but really awesome because you are constantly learning new things about your hair. Also be patient with your hair and accept it. So many times I see a girl with 3C hair and wish it was mine, but I’ve learnt how to love my hair just as it is, kinks and all.  That’s probably one of the only ways you will see progress.

How I restored my hair.

So, the first steps I took in my hair journey where
  1. Threw away the dyes.I stopped dying my hair and fell in love with my black hair. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with highlights and dying your hair, but that can damage your hair if  the wrong product is used or if u don't know how to take care of dyed hair, which leads to my next point...
  2. Deep conditioning Deep conditioning and some more deep conditioning. The best thing you can do for your hair is deep conditioning it regularly ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE DYED HAIR. Deep conditioning helps strengthen your hair. I try deep condition my hair every time I shampoo it especially when I am about to weave or braid my hair. I usually do this at home by myself. These are the products I usually use you can get them almost anywhere.

  3. The next step is to always keep your scalp and hair moisturized (I struggle with this).Find a moisturizer that best suits you.I use the Olive Oil Sheen Spray.
  4. One of the things I stopped doing was DIY (do it yourself) relaxing.I found a good salon where I get my hair relaxed.(Some people are really good at doing their own hair but its not for everyone) Oh, I use Dark and Lovely relaxer I tried Olive Oil once and it didn't work well for me. The correct way your hair should be relaxed is by only putting relaxer on your roots/growth not on the hair that's already straight. How many times should  one relax their hair a year????? 3 or 4 times a year depending on how fast your hair grows.

  5. Hair Irons and Blow dryers are your enemy. Too much of anything can make you sick, too much heat will make your hair sick. I stopped over using heat. I only use my hair iron and blow dryer when I really really need to.
  6. And finally we have African hair we are not white our hair needs protective styling - braids, weaves, cornrows etc those are your friends (When they are done the right way and not damaging your hairline that is.) I try not to go more than two weeks with my real hair, Remember when i said my hair broke last year it was because went about 5 weeks with my hair loose in winter. (I have learnt from my mistake hope you learn too.) I also try to not keep my hairstyles for too long braids 6-8 weeks and weaves about a month.
Yeah, I think that's about it. Oh and most of these tips apply to natural hair too, except for the relaxer one lol.

Thank you for visiting my page hope theses tips and products help you out.
